On November 30, 1990 the World Shotokan Karate Association (WSKA) was formed in Ferrara, Italy. At the request of the countries taking part in the European Shotokan Karate Association a World organisation was created, with the existing five regions used by the major world sporting organisations: America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania.
WSKA shall be composed of member organisations, which are established voluntarily and democratically in their own countries and approved by the Regional Committees in which they are located.
WSKA is a fully democratic (non-political) organisation formed to foster and develop traditional Shotokan competition around the World.
WSKA championships are held every two years at the beginning of September.
